Elm
Welcome to the Elm Class page!
This term’s topic is all about Conflict and Resolution and we will be exploring our learning question
’What did Florence and Mary do to help soldiers in the war?’
Our first few weeks of English will be focused on the fundamentals of writing, remembering how to build our sentences correctly, using punctuation and our beautiful handwriting. We will be using colourful semantics to look at building sentences.
In maths, we are learning about adding and subtracting. Our Year 1 children are focusing on adding and subtracting within 10, while our year 2 children are looking at adding and subtracting within 100.
In History we are learning all about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, and how they helped others during the Crimean. In Science we are learning about different materials and their properties. In DT we will be combining out learning from these topics to make a stretcher for a doll.
We love reading at Robert Bakewell, so please try to read as much as possible with your child at home, we cannot wait to hear all about their exciting reads! Remember to log all of their amazing reading on Boomreader so they can get their reading prizes.
Please keep an eye on our class page for regular updates and as a window to our fantastic learning!
Our P.E lessons take place on a Tuesday and a Friday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their P.E kit on those days each week. Also, please ensure your child has a water bottle in school everyday.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, then please feel free to email the school office.
