Welcome to the Hornbeam class page!
Welcome back to the final half term of this academic year!
Our new History topic focuses on Ancient Egypt and in English will be be writing a newspaper report based on Howard Carter’s famous discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. We will also be reading the Egyptian Cinderella, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx as well as the Ancient Egyptian Sleepover.
Our new PE days Wednesdays and Fridays, with a focus on rounders and cricket. Please ensure children come to school dressed in their PE kit. This includes black tracksuit/black shorts, white t-shirt and trainers.
Sports Day: Wednesday 24 June
We love reading at Robert Bakewell, so please try to read as much as possible with your child at home and log it onto Boom Reader. We cannot wait to hear all about their exciting reads and present them with their rewards!
Don’t forget to keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs regularly to showcase the fabulous learning happening in class and our Stars of the Week.
Thank you, Mr Sawyer and the Hornbeam team.
Biographies
Mr Sawyer - Class teacher: It is a joy and a privilege to teach your children. This is my fifth year teaching and my second year at Robert Bakewell. My favourite subjects are Maths, Science, Music and PE! My hobbies are Music, from singing/playing to listening, and anything sport-based. I was once nicknamed an “anorak” for knowing all sorts of random pub-quiz trivia around sports! I also can’t forget to shout out my one true love, Nottingham Forest Football Club (as well as my future wife of course!)
