Autumn 1

Our topic for Autumn 1 is all about Being Me in My World and we will be exploring our learning question “Who am I and where do I belong?”

In English, children will be retelling well‑known stories such as Elmer and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They will bring these stories to life through actions, props and simple story maps to deepen their understanding. Alongside this, children will be using a range of materials to mark‑make and will continue practising writing their names. They will also develop their listening skills through nursery rhymes in preparation for our upcoming phonics lessons.

In Maths, children will be sorting a variety of objects by colour, shape and size, and using these to create simple repeating patterns. They will also be reciting number names in order through songs and learning to count carefully using practical resources.

In Understanding the World, children will be thinking about themselves, their families and the special people and places that make up their community. Through stories, discussions, photos and simple mapping activities, they will learn to talk about their own identity, celebrate similarities and differences, and recognise that everyone belongs to different groups. This supports their confidence, sense of belonging and understanding of the wider world.

Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

PE this half term will be on Friday, so please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit. This includes black joggers/leggings, plain white t-shirt and black pumps. Children will also need to wear a black zip jacket, or their school jumper.
