Welcome to the Ash class page
Our Unit 6 topic is all about Transition and Changing and we will be exploring our learning question
“What is a plant?”
Through this question we will be exploring how things change as they grow with a particular focus on plants. We will be looking at the different parts of a plant and what is needed to help them grow. In RHSE we will also be looking at how we change as we grow and revisiting all of the British values.
In English, we will be focusing on the books Jack and the Beanstalk and The Gigantic Turnip. Children will explore how to retell these stories orally with the use of props and story maps. They will also look at how they can change one element of the story in order to make it our own. The children will continue with daily phonics lessons which will help them record simple sentences and recognise tricky words to support reading and writing.
In maths, children will be developing their understanding of positional language, addition and subtraction and simple patterns. We will also make connections with numbers and shapes.
In music, we will listening to different genres of music such as country, big band and beatboxing. We will also be learning the nursery rhyme Mary, Mary quite Contrary.
In DT, the children will be introduced to some basic food technology and will be learning how to use tools safely to peel, grate and chop fruits and vegetables.
At Robert Bakewell we firmly believe that reading is the key that opens doors for our children. Please ensure that you hear your child read daily and record this in their diary so that they can earn points towards our fabulous reading prizes.
Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.
PE this half term will be on Monday, so please ensure children have their indoor PE kit in school each week. This includes black shorts/leggings and white t-shirts and black pumps. Please ensure your kit is named!
