Summer 2

Our topic for Summer 1 is all about Transitions and Change and we will be exploring our learning question “How do things change over time?”

In English, children will be retelling well‑known stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They will bring these stories to life using actions, props and simple story maps to help deepen their understanding. Later in the term, they will begin to adapt these traditional tales to create their own versions. Alongside this, children will be writing for a range of purposes within the provision, including labels, lists and captions.

In Maths, children will continue working with numbers beyond 20 and revisiting addition and subtraction. They will practise recalling number bonds to 5 and 10 and explore grouping and sharing different amounts. We will also revisit 2D and 3D shapes.

In History, children will learn how the fire service and nursing has changed over time. They will look closely at similarities and differences using photographs and short video clips to help them compare the past with the present.

In Science, children will identify different types of plants growing around our school and explore the features of a plant and their functions. They will also have the opportunity to grow and care for their own plants. In addition, children will learn about how living things change as they grow by exploring the life cycles of a butterfly and a frog.

Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

PE this half term will be on Friday, so please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit. This includes black joggers/leggings, plain white t-shirt and black pumps. Children will also need to wear a black zip jacket, or their school jumper.
