Does it float?

This week we have been exploring which objects float and which objects sink. We found that heavier objects sank to the bottom of the water, while lighter objects stayed floating on the top. We were especially surprised by the cotton wool. At first it floated on the surface, but as it absorbed the water it became heavier and eventually sank to the bottom.
